Welcome to the official website of the 54th Presidential Inauguration. Vice President-Elect Richard Cheney and I are pleased you could visit.

On January 20, 2001, it will be my honor to be inaugurated as the 43rd President of the United States. The theme of the 54th Inauguration is "Celebrating America's Spirit Together." The Inaugural events we have planned are designed to honor our nation's traditions and our unique achievements as Americans. All Americans are invited to share in this historic celebration.

The Inaugural ceremony dates back to April 30, 1789, when our nation's first president, George Washington, took his oath of office on Wall Street in New York. Thomas Jefferson was the first president to be sworn-in to office in the new nation's capital of Washington, DC. In 1933, the Constitution was amended to establish January 20th as the official Inauguration date. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the first president to be sworn-in under this amendment.

This website is a resource for all who are interested in the Inauguration and all its related events. All Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) news releases will be available in the News Section. The site will also have information on tickets to Inaugural events and on volunteer opportunities. Also, for the first time, records on donations to the PIC will be made public through this web page.

It is a pleasure and an honor to share with you the 54th Inauguration, the first one to take place in the 21st century and in this millennium. Together we can make this celebration a memorable and joyous one.

Sincerely,

George W. Bush
